Age-stepped board books
Main idea: After black-and-white contrast we add colour as the baby’s vision grows — simple motifs made for eyes at that age.
After black-and-white cards comes the time to add colour as the baby’s vision grows. Pierot makes board books aimed at specific age bands (Jan Jiskra).
Simple motifs, big colour areas, sturdy pages. Not “pretty art for adults” — made for eyes at that age.
At home we liked this month-by-month path: contrast first, then more colour.
Volumes in the series (youngest first):
- 0–3 months — Board book for ages 0–3 months (ISBN 978-80-7353-642-8)
- 3–6 months — Board book for ages 3–6 months (ISBN 978-80-7353-652-7)
- 6–12 months — Board book for ages 6–12 months (ISBN 978-80-7353-653-4)
- 12+ months (about 12–18) — Board book for ages 12+ months (ISBN 978-80-7353-654-1)
Covers below are in that order. It starts with newborn contrast; colour and motifs grow with the months.
There's a whole range of similar books and cards out there — but I've found we don't need piles at home. A few pieces are enough, and during tummy time we place them around the baby as motivation.
